I'm going to cross post this on a few boards.  Those 4-6 months out or more...What foods don't agree with you?  Can some of you share which foods are not your friend?  If you can eat anything, are there certain foods that still don't sit well?  Brian  OH...forgot...PS  For me it's soft serve ice cream (McDonalds, DQ).  Also I can handle pork, but only in small amounts.

Salmon!! And I LOVE salmon... And sweets (thank God!!!). I haven't really pushed the envelope on rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. I do have a slice of bread about once a week, as long as it's toasted. Other than that, I stick to my surgeon's protocol. =)

Thinking back to 4 - 6 months out, I'm not totally sure what foods I didn't do well with - because I didn't push the envelope. I, seriously, didn't even have a bite of bread until over 12-months post-op, and stayed away from sugars, bread, rice, potato, and pasta. I was able to do all meats at 6-weeks, I just chewed really well (I'm talking 40-50 chews per bite). I think I had that "stuck" feeling a few times, but that was because I ate too fast and didn't chew well. I only remember dumping once prior to 6-months and it was on some no sugar added ice cream.

At 4 1/2 years - I can pretty much eat anything within reasonable portions (ie. one cookie, not 6 cookies). That being said, I still can't eat ice cream. For me it depends on the consistency of the sugar (ie. liquid vs. solid). My theory is that sugar from ice cream and/or drinks gets absorbed quicker, than sugar from solids such as cookie/cake. Though I did dump as recently as Thanksgiving, and I think it was on a couple bites of cranberry sauce (again, in line with my theory on the consistency of the sugar). While cranberry cause has a lot of sugar - I'm sure I've had more in a cookie or piece of candy.

I am 5 months out and I don't eat simply carbs for the most part and I hadn't found anything until this past week I tried Chili Rellenos and I had to run to the restroom with the foamys. I am not sure why this happened but I think I was eating too fast.

Well...anything eaten too fast (of course) gives me foamies.

As for generally not being able to tolerate it...milk...although I can have milk products (yogurt, cheese) no problem, but just plain milk makes me dump. They made my drink at the coffee shop with regular milk instead of soy the other day and I got sick sick sick.

I have to be really careful with any kind of meat, if it is too dry it HURTS. That's one of the reasons I don't often get it at restaurants, I don't want to get stuck paying for something I can't eat.

Carbs dont make me sick per se, but I do get a wicked carb coma feeling, so I generally just avoid more than a bite or two of them.

Salty things make me retain a lot of water, pickles, sausages, things like that, and I never had that issue before.

I love this thread, its interesting to see how different we all are, and yet, how the same in some ways! LOL

RNY on 07/19/07 with

I'm about 18 months out...

Ice Cream and anything like it... low-sugar ice cream, frozen yogurt, lactose-free ice cream....it all makes me so horribly sick that I don't even miss it anymore.  I was an ice cream junkie as a pre-op too.

Rice bread and pasta...anything more than a few bites just hurts.

Even though I can enjoy most ****tails, sugary sweet ones like margaritas make me break out in a cold sweat....I can't handle it.

There was quite a few things in my first few months. But being 4 months out now, there isn't much that bothers me. And I have tested myself on a few things, and haven't dumped yet. *knock on wood*

I'm a little over a year out and my pouch is revolting. Little cheats are making me dump. Not just sugar (which I avoid) but my little cheese nips or snacky crackers. I think I'm going backwards what worked at 9mos out does not work now. I prefer cheeseburger patties to most everything else. They sit the best. My Husband turns green at the sight of a hamburger - I guess thats a sign we eat too many.

I don't do meats, they just don't taste good to me so I try to just stay away.  The ice cream thing, WHOA, I mean it really gets to me, and like Monica,  I was an ice cream junkie.  I try to stay away from everything that is not healthy now, my tastes have totally change.

Nice post.
